Guwahati, August 6: Assam Cabinet Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah on Wednesday visited the erosion-affected Brahmaputra embankment at Jamuguri in Biswanath district to review the ongoing flood protection measures and interact with local residents affected by erosion.

Sharing an update on social media, the minister said the visit was aimed at not only inspecting the situation but also restoring confidence among the people living in vulnerable riverbank areas. He noted that ensuring the safety and security of affected communities remains a priority.

The inspection was carried out following the direction of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. During the visit, Mallabaruah held discussions with officials of the Water Resources Department, the district administration and other concerned agencies to assess the progress of embankment protection work and identify additional measures required for long-term flood management.

Local legislators, including Bhupen Kumar Borah, Utpal Bora and Rishiraj Hazarika, accompanied the minister during the inspection. Officials from the Water Resources Department and district administration were also present.

The state government has been reviewing erosion-prone locations across flood-affected districts in an effort to strengthen embankments and minimise the impact of future floods along the Brahmaputra.
