Kuki Organisations Seek Early Implementation of Peace Accord, Meet Assam Minister Ranoj Pegu

Guwahati: Assam Education Minister and Tribal Affairs (Plains) Minister Ranoj Pegu on Saturday met a delegation representing the Kuki Inpi and the Kuki Students’ Organisation, Assam, which submitted a memorandum seeking the early implementation of the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) aimed at ending insurgency and promoting the welfare and development of the Kuki community.

During the meeting, the delegation urged the state government to expedite the implementation of the peace agreement, highlighting the need for timely measures to ensure lasting peace, socio-economic development, and improved opportunities for members of the Kuki community across Assam.

Responding to the memorandum, Minister Pegu informed the delegation that the Tribal Affairs (Plains) Department is working in close coordination with the Home and Political Department to advance the implementation process. He assured the representatives that the government is actively pursuing the necessary steps to fulfil the commitments outlined in the settlement.

The minister also reiterated the Assam government’s commitment to maintaining peace and harmony while ensuring the welfare and development of all communities in the state. He emphasized that the successful implementation of the Memorandum of Settlement would contribute significantly to stability, inclusive growth, and the overall progress of affected regions.

The meeting is being viewed as an important step towards strengthening dialogue between the government and Kuki organisations, with both sides expressing hope that the provisions of the agreement will be implemented at the earliest for the benefit of the community and the larger goal of lasting peace in the region.
