Udalguri: Government healthcare facilities in Udalguri district are set to receive additional support for their electricity requirements following the commissioning of new solar power projects at key health institutions.

BTC Deputy Chief Executive Member and MLA Rihon Daimari formally inaugurated solarisation initiatives at Harisinga Model Hospital and Udalguri Sub-Health Centre during a programme held at the Udalguri Block Primary Health Centre on August 10.

The initiative is aimed at expanding the use of renewable energy in public healthcare facilities and strengthening access to a more dependable power source for essential services. Solar power can be particularly useful at healthcare institutions where uninterrupted electricity is important for routine operations and patient care.

During the same programme, Daimari also inaugurated a number of solar-powered street lights installed within the premises of the Udalguri Block Primary Health Centre. The lighting project is expected to improve illumination across the health centre campus while reducing reliance on conventional electricity for outdoor lighting.

The projects have been implemented with support from the SELCO Foundation, which has been working to promote renewable-energy solutions in healthcare and other public-service spaces.

The combined initiatives have been undertaken at an estimated cost of around Rs 12 lakh. Apart from providing an alternative source of electricity, the solar installations are expected to help participating institutions reduce their dependence on conventional power sources over time.

The move marks an effort to integrate clean-energy solutions into public infrastructure in Udalguri and could contribute to more sustainable operation of government health facilities.

With healthcare institutions requiring reliable electricity for a range of essential activities, the introduction of solar power is expected to provide an additional layer of energy support while encouraging greater adoption of renewable energy in public facilities across the district.
