Guwahati — Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said police recovered about 20,000 YABA (methamphetamine) tablets, valued at over ₹3 crore, in two separate anti-narcotics operations carried out by Sribhumi Police. Two people were arrested in connection with the seizures, the chief minister said in a post on X.
Acting on specific intelligence, Sribhumi teams intercepted suspected carriers late on Saturday and seized the contraband, officials told reporters. Police sources said the tablets are now with forensic teams for analysis as investigations continue to trace the trafficking network and the route of origin.
The raids form part of the Assam government’s intensified #AssamAgainstDrugs campaign. Over the past few weeks, Assam Police have reported multiple large busts across districts, and authorities say they are focusing on disrupting cross-border drug routes and local distribution chains.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the police for the operation, writing on X: “The relentless crackdown on drugs continues… 20,000 YABA tablets priced over ₹3cr were recovered last night. 2 people have been arrested in this #AssamAgainstDrugs campaign. Kudos @assampolice.”
Police said interrogations of the arrested suspects are under way and further arrests cannot be ruled out as the probe moves from local handlers to possible larger trafficking links.
