The Assam Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, approved several key decisions aimed at strengthening infrastructure, sports facilities, riverbank protection, and employee welfare. Minister Ashok Singhal shared the updates on X following the meeting.
According to Singhal, the Cabinet cleared Asom Mala 3.0, a major road infrastructure initiative with an outlay of ₹3,217 crore. The programme aims to improve state highways and enhance connectivity across Assam.
In a significant boost to sports development, the Cabinet approved ₹765 crore for the redevelopment of the RG Baruah Sports Complex into a 25,000-seater FIFA Category 2 stadium, set to meet global standards for football infrastructure.
The government also adopted a new policy for community-led riverbank protection and embankment projects, enabling local participation in managing flood-prone areas and strengthening river defence systems.
In a welfare-oriented decision, the Cabinet approved special casual leave for state government employees under the Matri Pitri Vandana scheme, aimed at supporting employees in caring for their parents.
Additionally, the Cabinet decided on the distribution of the Commission of Enquiry Report on the Assam Disturbances of 1983, marking an important step in addressing historical issues.
Singhal added that he joined the Chief Minister and fellow ministers at the post-meeting press briefing to elaborate on the significance of the decisions taken.
