The Golaghat district committee of the All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU) has called for adequate political representation of the Ahom community in the 2026 Assam Legislative Assembly elections, demanding candidature in at least two of the five assembly constituencies in the district.
In a press statement, ATASU Golaghat district president Pankaj Gogoi, along with joint secretaries Ankur Konwar and Bhaskarjyoti Phukan, stated that the Ahom community has played a decisive role in the Khumtai and Sarupathar constituencies. Despite this, they pointed out that no political party has so far fielded an Ahom candidate from these seats.
ATASU central publicity secretary Krishna Baruah cautioned that the organisation would take a strong stand in the 2026 elections if the Ahom community continues to be denied representation in two constituencies of Golaghat district.
Gogoi further remarked that the continued neglect of the Ahom community in the Khumtai constituency over the years has caused deep resentment, describing it as a serious insult to the community. He urged political parties to recognise the community’s electoral significance and ensure fair representation in the upcoming polls.
