Guwahati Police arrested a 28-year-old pan shop owner and seized over 1.5 kilograms of ganja during an anti-narcotics operation in the Jayanagar area of the city.
According to Guwahati Police, a team of the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) from Dispur Police Station conducted a search at a pan shop located at Jayanagar Chari Ali on January 7. During the operation, the shop owner, identified as Manik Dey of Tulashibari, Rangia, was apprehended.
Police recovered 471.61 grams of ganja from the pan shop along with 84 bundles of rolling papers, each containing 64 pieces. Following the arrest, further recovery was made based on the accused’s disclosure. A search at his rented accommodation in Jayanagar led to the seizure of an additional 1,048 grams of ganja.
Guwahati Police stated that legal action has been initiated in connection with the case and further investigation is underway.
