Guwahati, October 9, 2026: The Assam Cabinet on Friday adopted a 76-paragraph resolution expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his 25 years of continuous service as head of government, recognising his contributions to Assam’s development and his vision for the state.
The special Cabinet meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati. Assam Minister Ashok Singhal announced the decision in a post on X, describing the resolution as a tribute to Modi’s quarter-century of public service and his commitment to the nation.
The resolution documents the Prime Minister’s contributions to Assam and acknowledges the state’s development journey during his years in public office. It also highlights his vision of “A for Assam”, a phrase he used in 2014 to emphasise Assam’s potential and its importance in India’s growth.
Speaking after the meeting, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Cabinet had convened specifically to congratulate Modi on completing 25 years as head of government. He said the resolution recorded the Prime Minister’s contributions to Assam and reflected the state’s gratitude for his role in its development.
Sarma recalled Modi’s “A for Assam” vision announced in 2014, saying the state had progressed in the direction envisioned by the Prime Minister. He also congratulated Modi on completing an uninterrupted 25-year journey in public office, beginning with his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister and continuing as Prime Minister of India.
Narendra Modi first assumed office as Chief Minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001. He served in that position until becoming Prime Minister in May 2014. On October 7, 2026, he completed 25 continuous years as head of government.
The Assam Cabinet’s resolution comes two days after the Union Cabinet adopted its own resolution marking the milestone. The Union Cabinet recognised Modi’s tenure in Gujarat and at the national level, highlighting areas including infrastructure, welfare delivery, technology, economic reforms and national development.
In Assam, the state government has emphasised the importance of improved connectivity, infrastructure development, investment, healthcare, education and peace in shaping the state’s development prospects. The resolution reflects the state government’s assessment of Modi’s contribution to these areas and his broader vision for the Northeast.
The Cabinet’s decision also underscores Assam’s stated ambition to strengthen its role as a gateway to Northeast India and an important contributor to the country’s economic growth. The state government has repeatedly highlighted the region’s strategic importance and its potential for trade, investment and connectivity with neighbouring countries.
Through the resolution, the Assam Cabinet formally conveyed its gratitude to the Prime Minister for his years of public service and his stated commitment to the development of Assam and the nation.
