In a significant recovery operation, a team of the Central Guwahati Police District (CGPD) from Noonmati Police Station successfully recovered and seized an XCMG excavator machine from Tuli in Nagaland on May 22, 2026.

According to a statement shared by Guwahati Police on X, the recovery was made following a complaint lodged by the owner of the excavator, who alleged financial fraud and illegal retention of the heavy machine.

As per the complaint, the excavator had been rented out in 2025 to one Deep Jyoti Basumatary, a resident of Haluating in Assam’s Sivasagar district, for a monthly rental amount of ₹2.20 lakh. However, the accused allegedly failed to pay the agreed rental charges for five consecutive months.

The complainant further alleged that despite repeated requests, the accused neither cleared the pending dues nor returned the excavator machine. Following the complaint, Noonmati Police launched an investigation and traced the excavator to Tuli in Nagaland.

Acting on the information gathered during the probe, the police team carried out a recovery operation and successfully seized the machine. Officials stated that the excavator has now been brought under police custody as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police sources indicated that legal action has been initiated against the accused under relevant provisions of the law. Investigators are also examining whether there were deliberate attempts to conceal or unlawfully retain the excavator after defaulting on payments.

The operation highlights the increasing role of inter-state coordination in tracking and recovering high-value machinery and commercial assets. Heavy construction equipment such as excavators often involve substantial rental agreements, making disputes over payments and possession financially significant.

Meanwhile, police have urged business owners and equipment rental operators to maintain proper documentation and verify credentials before entering into large commercial rental agreements.

Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
