Guwahati | July 22: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) carried out a night-time eviction drive in the Borbari area near VIP Road at Sixmile to remove unauthorised encroachments from public land and improve accessibility in the locality.

The civic body’s enforcement team conducted the operation as part of its ongoing initiative to keep public spaces free from obstructions and ensure smoother movement for pedestrians and commuters. The drive focused on clearing structures and encroachments that had occupied public areas.

Sharing details of the operation, GMC said the eviction was undertaken to create safer and obstruction-free public spaces while maintaining orderly urban infrastructure in the city.

The municipal authority reiterated its commitment to protecting public land from illegal occupation and ensuring that roadsides and other civic spaces remain accessible to residents.

Officials, however, did not disclose the number of structures removed or whether any further eviction drives have been planned in the area.

The Guwahati Municipal Corporation has been conducting enforcement drives at different locations across the city as part of its efforts to improve urban management and maintain public infrastructure. Residents have been urged to cooperate with civic authorities in keeping public spaces free from encroachments.
