Guwahati: An East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) team has reportedly uncovered a suspected drug hideout in the Jorabat area following the arrest of a 30-year-old man, with heroin and other items seized during the operation, Guwahati Police said in an official update.
The operation was carried out by a team from Basistha Police Station, which arrested Madan Dorji, 30, of Jorabat, according to the police.
Police said Dorji was found in possession of five cans containing heroin, with the total weight of the seized substance estimated at 37 grams. Officers also recovered 55 empty vials and one mobile phone during the operation.
The recovery of the empty vials has prompted police to investigate the suspected use of the premises in connection with drug-related activities. However, Guwahati Police have not disclosed further details about the alleged role of the arrested man or the intended distribution of the seized substance.
Following the seizure, legal action has been initiated against Dorji, according to the police update. Further investigation is expected to establish the source of the suspected heroin and determine whether other individuals are connected to the alleged drug network.
The latest action comes amid continued anti-narcotics operations by Guwahati Police across different parts of the city. Basistha Police have previously reported heroin seizures during operations in areas under their jurisdiction.
Authorities have not yet released additional information regarding the case, including the sections of law invoked or whether further arrests are expected.
