Shillong, August 18: The Assam Rifles War Memorial at Laitkor in Shillong witnessed a solemn tribute on August 17 as Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia, AVSM, VM, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Air Command, paid his respects to personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
During his visit to the Headquarters of the Directorate General of Assam Rifles, Air Marshal Walia laid a wreath at the memorial, remembering the soldiers whose service and sacrifice continue to inspire generations.
The visit also included an interaction with officers and personnel of the Assam Rifles. The Eastern Air Command chief praised the troops for their professionalism, discipline and commitment to duty while serving in the challenging operational environment of the North Eastern region.
He also acknowledged the force’s efforts to maintain a high level of operational preparedness and its continued dedication to safeguarding the nation’s interests in a demanding terrain.
Three Assam Rifles personnel were also recognised during the visit for their performance and service. Deputy Commandant Angam Zimik, Warrant Officer Aswini Patgiri and Rifleman Virendra Singh received the AOC-in-C, Eastern Air Command Commendation Card.
The commendations recognised their dedication, professionalism and notable contribution to their duties.
The visit combined a tribute to the force’s fallen personnel with recognition of those currently serving, highlighting the values of courage, dedication and duty associated with the Assam Rifles.
