Guwahati, August 1: Assam Police personnel will contribute one day’s salary from their July 2026 pay to support relief and rehabilitation efforts for people affected by the recent floods across the state, following an appeal issued by the Assam Police Headquarters.
The initiative was approved during a meeting chaired by the Director General of Police (DGP), Assam, on July 28, with the force deciding to extend financial support to flood-affected communities through the Assam Police Central Distress Fund.
To facilitate the process, the headquarters has instructed all Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) to obtain consent from officers and employees before deducting an amount equivalent to one day’s salary from their July pay. The collected funds will then be transferred to the designated account of the Assam Police Central Distress Fund.
The official communication noted that the recent floods have caused extensive damage and affected thousands of people across Assam. It emphasised the importance of collective support from the police force to assist families struggling in the aftermath of the disaster.
In addition to ensuring the transfer of contributions, DDOs have been directed to submit compliance reports to the Assam Police Headquarters after completing the remittance process, along with details of the total amount deposited.
The salary donation initiative comes amid ongoing relief operations across Assam, with government departments, security forces, organisations, and citizens joining efforts to provide financial assistance and humanitarian support to flood-affected families.
