Mumbai, July 21: The makers of Awarapan 2 have officially launched the film’s musical campaign with the release of Yeh Awarapan, a song that also marks Arijit Singh’s return to playback singing after announcing a break from new film assignments earlier this year.
The emotional track, composed by Amaal Malik and written by lyricist Rashmi Virag, has been released on major digital music platforms. Industry reports indicate that the song has been designed as the emotional centerpiece of the film, reflecting the inner world of Emraan Hashmi’s character, Shivam Pandit.
Arijit’s return also reunites him with Vishesh Bhatt and Vishesh Films, a collaboration that has produced several memorable Bollywood songs over the past decade. According to reports, Vishesh Bhatt felt Arijit’s voice best captured the emotional intensity required for the film’s lead character.
The partnership between Arijit Singh and Vishesh Films has previously delivered a number of successful soundtracks, beginning with Phir Mohabbat from Murder 2. Their collaborations later included widely popular songs such as Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2, Muskurane from CityLights, the title tracks of Khamoshiyan and Hamari Adhuri Kahani, and Pal from Jalebi.
Awarapan 2 brings Emraan Hashmi back to the franchise in the lead role. The film also stars Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, Surendar Vicky, Vijayant Kohli and Atul Kumar. Directed by Nitin Kakkar and written by Bilal Siddiqui, the sequel is produced by Vishesh Bhatt and is slated to hit theatres on August 14.
Arijit Singh had surprised fans in January when he announced that he would no longer accept new playback singing assignments. In a message shared on social media, the singer thanked listeners for their unwavering support and revealed his decision to step away from recording songs for films.
His return for Yeh Awarapan has generated considerable excitement among music lovers, particularly because it revives one of Bollywood’s most successful singer-producer collaborations. With the film’s release just weeks away, the launch of its first song is expected to build further anticipation among audiences eager to revisit the Awarapan franchise.
