Sivasagar, September 7, 2026: The legacy of veteran educationist late Haren Bhuyan, who played a pioneering role in the development of Dikhowmukh College, was remembered with the installation and unveiling of his bust at the institution.

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal unveiled the memorial at Dikhowmukh College and paid homage to the former principal, recalling his valuable contribution to education as well as social life.

Remembering Bhuyan, Sonowal said the contributions of dedicated educators should remain an inspiration for generations to come. He highlighted the importance of preserving the memory and values of individuals who devoted their lives to building educational institutions and contributing to society.

The Union Minister expressed confidence that Dikhowmukh College would continue to play an important role in shaping young people through the combined influence of education, culture and values. He also conveyed his wishes for the continued success of the institution and a bright future for its students.

The memorial event was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Jogen Mohan, college principal Dr. Ranjit Kumar Boruah, Governing Body President Maniram Saikia and several other distinguished guests.

Haren Bhuyan is remembered particularly for his association with Dikhowmukh College as its founding principal. His contribution to the institution forms an important part of the college’s history and reflects the efforts of an earlier generation of educators who helped expand access to higher education in the region.

The unveiling of the bust provides a permanent symbol of that contribution and gives students and future generations an opportunity to learn about the educator’s role in the institution’s journey.

Sonowal’s message also placed emphasis on the broader purpose of education, encouraging students to value discipline, commitment, humility and responsible conduct alongside academic learning.

The programme therefore served both as a tribute to Haren Bhuyan and as a reaffirmation of Dikhowmukh College’s continuing responsibility towards education, culture and the development of responsible citizens.
