Direct Guwahati-Bangkok Air Service Set to Begin in October

Travellers from Northeast India will soon have another international flight option as IndiGo prepares to connect Guwahati directly with Bangkok, Thailand, from October 2026.

The new service is scheduled to operate twice a week, with flights running on Wednesdays and Saturdays. IndiGo will conduct a special inaugural flight on October 27, while the regular schedule is expected to commence from October 31.

The launch is significant for Guwahati as it will mark IndiGo’s first international flight operations from the city. It will also introduce a direct international connection for passengers travelling from Northeast India to Thailand, potentially reducing the need for travellers to take connecting flights through other Indian metropolitan cities.

The Guwahati-Bangkok route is expected to benefit both leisure and business travellers. Bangkok is a major tourism and commercial destination in Southeast Asia, and the direct service could make travel more convenient for passengers from Assam and neighbouring northeastern states.

The new international connection may also contribute to tourism and trade between Northeast India and Thailand. With Guwahati increasingly serving as the region’s principal aviation gateway, improved international connectivity could further strengthen its role as a link between Northeast India and Southeast Asia.

IndiGo has maintained a long-standing presence in Guwahati. Its operations in the city date back to 2006, when the airline operated a Delhi-Guwahati-Imphal service. The planned Bangkok route represents a further expansion of its network from the Northeast.

The announcement comes amid growing international connectivity at Guwahati airport. Air India has also recently launched weekly flights connecting Guwahati with Dubai and Abu Dhabi, operating on Tuesdays and Wednesdays respectively.

The addition of Bangkok will therefore give passengers from the Northeast another direct overseas destination and further enhance Guwahati’s position on the international aviation map.
