Guwahati: Opportunities for specialised education and research in cancer biology are set to receive a boost in Assam following a new academic collaboration between Gauhati University (GU) and B. Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI).

The two institutions have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen academic and research activities associated with the M.Sc. programme in Cancer Biology offered through the Department of Bioengineering and Technology at Gauhati University.

The collaboration is intended to provide students with greater exposure to the rapidly developing field of cancer biology while supporting advanced learning and academic research.

Through the partnership, students enrolled in the programme are expected to benefit from opportunities to expand their understanding of cancer-related sciences and engage with developments in research and specialised learning.

The collaboration brings together Gauhati University’s academic resources and the specialised expertise associated with B. Borooah Cancer Institute, creating a platform for greater interaction between higher education and cancer-focused research.

Cancer biology is a multidisciplinary area that covers the study of cancer development, cellular and molecular processes, diagnosis, treatment and related research. The M.Sc. programme is aimed at providing students with academic exposure to this evolving field.

The agreement marks another step towards strengthening academic partnerships and research-oriented learning in specialised areas at the university.

The development was announced by Gauhati University through its official social media platform. The university also tagged institutions and organisations including the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Department of Biotechnology (DBT), University Grants Commission (UGC), Tata Memorial Centre and the Ministry of Education in its announcement.
