Guwahati: Promoting health awareness and encouraging young people to adopt healthier lifestyles, the Gauhati University Campus NSS Unit organised a health awareness camp on the university campus as part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ campaign.
The programme, titled ‘Mera Swasthya, Mera Garv’, was organised with the support of the State Health Department/Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) and Peerless Hospital, Guwahati. Gauhati University shared details of the programme through its official social media account on September 28, 2026.
The initiative focused on increasing health awareness among young people and encouraging them to follow a healthy and addiction-free lifestyle. Participants at the camp were provided access to general health check-ups and medical consultations.
Health professionals also shared guidance on various aspects of personal healthcare, disease prevention and the importance of maintaining healthy daily habits. The organisers used the programme to encourage participants to pay greater attention to preventive healthcare and make informed choices about their well-being.
The event forms part of the wider Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Abhiyan, which focuses on youth participation, health awareness and efforts towards an addiction-free society. A nationwide ‘Mera Swasthya, Mera Garv’ initiative was also conducted at more than 400 locations, with participation from over 2.5 lakh youth and citizens, according to a Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports release issued on September 27.
RBSK, or Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram, is an initiative under the National Health Mission that focuses on early identification and intervention for health conditions among children and adolescents. The programme covers children from birth to 18 years and addresses defects at birth, deficiencies, diseases and developmental delays, including disabilities.
The Gauhati University programme therefore combined health screening and medical guidance with a broader message on preventive healthcare and responsible lifestyle choices among young people.
The university’s NSS Unit, along with the participating health authorities and Peerless Hospital Guwahati, used the awareness camp to reinforce the importance of personal health, disease prevention and maintaining a healthy lifestyle as part of the larger youth-focused campaign.
