Guwahati, June 12: Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team from Basistha Police Station under the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) apprehended two suspected thieves and recovered several stolen mobile phones along with a two-wheeler allegedly used in the commission of the crime.
According to Guwahati Police, the operation led to the arrest of Siba Baidya alias Biki (18), a resident of Geetanagar, and Biswajit Kalita alias Biswa (21), a resident of Changsari.
During the operation, police recovered and seized four mobile phones believed to be stolen. The recovered items include one HMD keypad mobile phone, one Vivo Y400 5G smartphone, one silver-coloured Vivo mobile phone, and one black-coloured Vivo mobile phone.
In addition to the stolen handsets, police also seized a TVS Ntorq scooter bearing registration number AS01FX2369, which was allegedly used by the accused while carrying out the thefts.
Police officials stated that the arrests were made following intelligence-based surveillance and investigation. The recovered mobile phones are being verified to establish their ownership and determine whether they are linked to multiple theft cases reported in the city.
Legal action has been initiated against the accused persons, and further investigation is underway to ascertain their involvement in other property-related offences.
The successful operation reflects the ongoing efforts of Guwahati Police to curb theft-related crimes and recover stolen property through timely intelligence gathering and prompt action.
