Guwahati, June 12: A team from Basistha Police Station under the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) has successfully cracked a theft case involving stolen borewell pump wires and arrested three persons allegedly involved in the crime.
According to the police, the theft case was reported on June 8, 2026, following the theft of electrical wires from a borewell pump installation. Acting on the complaint, investigators launched a probe and gathered crucial leads that led to the identification of the suspects.
During the investigation, police apprehended two accused identified as Jintu Rabha (22) and Bibek Boro alias Habang (18), both residents of Patorkuchi. A search conducted after their arrest resulted in the recovery of 5.390 kilograms of stolen electrical wires from their possession.
Based on information disclosed during interrogation, police further tracked down and arrested Monoj Sahani (38), a resident of Samastipur district in Bihar, who is reportedly a habitual offender. During the operation, an additional 12 kilograms of stolen copper wires were seized from him.
In total, police recovered more than 17 kilograms of stolen electrical and copper wires linked to the theft case.
Guwahati Police stated that legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused persons and further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the arrested individuals were involved in other similar theft cases in the city.
The successful operation highlights the continued efforts of Guwahati Police to curb property-related crimes and recover stolen property through prompt investigation and coordinated action.
