Massive Women’s Rally in Gangtok Showcases Strong Support for Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam

Gangtok, 17 April 2026: In a remarkable display of unity and enthusiasm, Sikkim witnessed a massive women-led rally in support of the historic and transformative Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, which ensures 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies.

Thousands of women from across the state gathered in Gangtok to welcome and express their heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji for this landmark reform. The rally commenced from Deorali Truck Stand and culminated at Palzor Stadium, drawing participation from all sections of society.

Women from diverse backgrounds—including legislators, social figures, bureaucrats, NGOs, Anganwadi workers, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), artists, influencers, employees, students, homemakers, entrepreneurs, govt & pvt sector employees and Panchayati Raj representatives—participated with great enthusiasm, zeal and a spirit of celebration.

The rally was held under the direction of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), reflecting the state’s strong commitment to women’s empowerment and inclusive governance.

Participants raised slogans expressing gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the Government of India, while also celebrating the spirit of Nari Shakti. The event featured a range of activities including a digital thanksgiving campaign, signature drives, selfie booths and public addresses by women leaders at Palzor Stadium, highlighting the significance and long-term impact of the Adhiniyam.

The atmosphere in Gangtok resonated with powerful slogans such as “Vande Mataram,” “Jai Nari Shakti,” “Jai Nari Shakti Vandan,” “Jai Narendra Modi Ji,” “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” and “Jai Nari Sashaktikaran,” as participants carried placards and banners expressing their appreciation.

Despite being a small state, Sikkim’s overwhelming participation and deep sense of gratitude towards the national leadership stands as a shining example for the rest of the country. The rally not only celebrated a historic legislative milestone but also underscored the growing role of women in shaping the future of India.
