In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Guwahati Police arrested a woman drug peddler and seized a significant quantity of heroin during a raid in the Basistha area of the city.

According to an official update posted on X, the operation was carried out by a team from Basistha Police Station under the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD), acting on specific intelligence inputs. The team raided a suspected hideout at Latakata and apprehended the accused, identified as Lamneao Kipgen (30), a resident of Pilingkata in Meghalaya.

During the search, police recovered one soap box and 50 vials containing heroin, weighing a total of 81 grams. Officials said the packaging method indicates the drugs were likely meant for local distribution, suggesting the presence of a retail-level network operating in the area.

The seized contraband has been taken into custody as evidence, and legal action has been initiated under relevant provisions of the law. The accused is currently in police custody.

Investigators are now working to trace the supply chain and identify other individuals linked to the racket, including possible interstate connections. Police believe the arrest could lead to further breakthroughs in ongoing anti-drug operations.

The Basistha area has been under increased surveillance as part of intensified efforts by city police to curb narcotics trafficking. Authorities have reiterated their zero-tolerance stance and urged citizens to share credible information to help combat drug-related activities.

Further investigation is underway.
