Guwahati, September 7, 2026: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has placed the state’s newly qualified doctors and healthcare professionals at the centre of its efforts to build a stronger and more accessible healthcare system.
Speaking at the 4th Convocation of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS) in Guwahati, Sarma congratulated the graduating students and urged them to carry a strong sense of ethics and compassion into their professional lives.
The convocation was attended by Vice-President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan, whose presence marked the significance of the occasion for Assam’s medical and health sciences community.
Sarma said the responsibility of a medical professional extends well beyond treating illness. He called on the graduates to uphold professional integrity, discipline and empathy while serving patients, stressing that healthcare must remain firmly rooted in the values of humanity and public service.
The Chief Minister also pointed to the changes taking place across Assam’s healthcare sector. The state has been expanding medical education and healthcare infrastructure while seeking to strengthen specialised services, cancer treatment, medical research and the use of modern technology.
According to Sarma, these developments are part of a broader effort to make quality healthcare more readily available to people within the state. The expansion of medical education is also expected to increase the availability of trained professionals capable of meeting Assam’s growing healthcare requirements.
The newly graduated doctors and other health professionals are expected to become an important part of this evolving healthcare network. Sarma expressed confidence that their expertise and commitment would contribute to improving healthcare delivery across the state.
He further stressed the importance of ensuring that medical advancement remains patient-oriented and accessible. The objective, he said, is to create a healthcare system that combines modern treatment facilities with affordability and ease of access for ordinary citizens.
