Guwahati, June 23: With thousands of devotees expected to travel during the ongoing Ambubachi Mela, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava on Monday inspected Kamakhya Railway Station to assess preparedness and passenger management arrangements for the annual religious event.

During the visit, Shrivastava reviewed crowd management measures, passenger amenities, cleanliness, drinking water facilities, medical assistance, help desks and security arrangements put in place at the station. He also interacted with railway officials and examined the operational readiness of the railway administration to handle the anticipated surge in passenger traffic during the mela, which is being held from June 22 to 25.

The General Manager directed officials to maintain constant vigilance and ensure effective crowd control throughout the festival period. He emphasized the importance of close coordination with security agencies and civil authorities to facilitate smooth train operations and ensure the safety and convenience of passengers.

To manage the increased rush of devotees, NFR has introduced special unreserved train services connecting Kamakhya with several key destinations across Assam and North Bengal. In addition, a number of regular train services have been temporarily augmented with extra coaches to accommodate the higher passenger demand.

Shrivastava also stressed the need to maintain high standards of cleanliness, ensure uninterrupted services and prioritize passenger safety throughout the festival. According to an NFR press release, the railway administration is taking all necessary measures to provide a smooth and hassle-free travel experience for pilgrims visiting the Kamakhya Temple during the Ambubachi Mela.
