Guwahati, April 22: In a targeted anti-narcotics operation, Guwahati Police arrested a suspected drug peddler from the Basistha area and seized heroin, cash, and mobile phones from his possession.
According to officials, a team from Basistha Police Station under the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) conducted a raid at a hideout in Bengali Basti on Kalibari Road. The operation led to the arrest of 48-year-old Rananjay Mandal, also known as “Hanuman,” who is suspected to be involved in drug trafficking activities in the city.
During the raid, police recovered two soap boxes containing approximately 25 grams of heroin. In addition to the narcotics, authorities seized ₹2,03,250 in cash, believed to be proceeds from illegal drug trade, along with two mobile phones.
Police sources stated that the accused had been under surveillance following inputs about his involvement in peddling narcotics in the locality. The raid is part of ongoing efforts by city police to dismantle drug networks operating in Guwahati.
Legal action has been initiated against the accused under relevant provisions of law. Further investigation is underway to identify possible links and trace other individuals connected to the network.
Officials reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying anti-drug operations and urged citizens to share information about illegal activities to help maintain law and order.
