Gangtok: Dushyant Kumar Gautam officially took charge as the 19th Governor of Sikkim on Monday, October 19, during a formal swearing-in ceremony at Lok Bhavan in Gangtok. He succeeds Om Prakash Mathur following his appointment by President Droupadi Murmu earlier this month.

Justice A. Muhamed Mustaque, Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court, administered the oath of office and secrecy to Gautam in the presence of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, state ministers, legislators and other prominent personalities.

The ceremony commenced with Sikkim Chief Secretary R. Telang reading the President’s Warrant of Appointment. Gautam then took the prescribed oath and signed the official documents, formally completing the process of assuming the gubernatorial position.

Following the ceremony, Chief Minister Tamang introduced the new Governor to the dignitaries assembled at Lok Bhavan. The occasion concluded with a ceremonial Guard of Honour presented by personnel of the Sikkim Armed Police.

Several prominent figures attended the event, including the Darjeeling Lok Sabha MP, representatives of the Gangtok Municipal Corporation, government advisers, chairpersons, former legislators, members of the Army, Central government representatives and senior officials from various state departments.

Gautam’s appointment was announced by President Droupadi Murmu on October 12. His assumption of office marks a change in the state’s gubernatorial leadership, with the newly appointed Governor now taking on the constitutional responsibilities associated with the position.
