Two Drug Peddlers Held in Guwahati’s Noonmati, Heroin Worth Over 21 Grams Seized

Guwahati Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers during a joint anti-narcotics operation carried out in the Noonmati area of Guwahati, officials said on Wednesday.

According to information shared by Guwahati Police on X, the operation was conducted by a joint team of the Central Guwahati Police District (CGPD) Special Operations Group (SOG) and Noonmati Police Station based on specific intelligence inputs.

During the raid conducted in Noonmati, the police team apprehended two suspected drug peddlers identified as Abhisekh Ghosh and Minku Moni Deka, both residents of the locality.

Police recovered 17 vials containing suspected heroin weighing 21.57 grams from their possession. In addition to the narcotics, the team also seized two mobile handsets and cash amounting to ₹810.

Following the seizure, legal action was initiated against the accused under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Officials stated that the operation forms part of the continuing crackdown against drug trafficking and illegal narcotics networks in Guwahati and other parts of Assam. Over the past several months, Assam Police has intensified anti-drug drives across the state, leading to multiple arrests and seizures of heroin, ganja, yaba tablets and other contraband substances.

The police have further launched an investigation to ascertain the source of the seized heroin and to identify whether the accused have links with any larger drug trafficking network operating in the region.

Guwahati Police reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against drug-related crimes and appealed to citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information regarding illegal narcotics activities.
