New Delhi: Bail pleas filed by Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma in the Zubeen Garg death case are scheduled to come before the Supreme Court today. The proceedings follow renewed appeals for justice and opposition to the accused being released on bail.
The case concerns the singer’s death in Singapore on September 19, 2025. Mahanta moved the apex court after the Gauhati High Court rejected his bail application. During previous hearings, the Assam government presented updates on the trial and the examination of witnesses.
Ahead of the hearing, a gathering at Zubeen Kshetra in Sonapur demanded that authorities strongly contest the bail pleas. Protesters warned of intensified demonstrations across Assam if the accused are granted relief.
Meanwhile, the singer’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, and representatives from the artistic community have sought stronger prosecution and a speedy trial. In a memorandum submitted to the Assam Governor, the delegation also called for opposition to pending bail applications.
