Guwahati, October 29: In a touching tribute to Assam’s legendary cultural icon Zubeen Garg, the Assam government has announced that it will donate its entire share of Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue collected from Roi Roi Binale, the final film associated with the late singer, to the Kalaguru Artist Foundation.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made the announcement on Wednesday after the state Cabinet meeting, describing the move as a heartfelt gesture to honour Zubeen Garg’s unmatched contribution to Assamese art and culture.
“Since there is no entertainment tax in Assam and GST is collected by the Centre, the state’s share—9% on tickets priced above ₹100 and 2.5% on tickets below ₹100—will be handed over to Zubeen’s foundation,” the Chief Minister told reporters.
The Kalaguru Artist Foundation, founded by Zubeen Garg himself, has long served as a pillar of support for struggling artists, students, and families affected by natural calamities. The foundation embodies the singer’s compassion and his lifelong commitment to the welfare of Assam’s creative community.
Calling the initiative “a way to keep Zubeen’s legacy alive,” CM Sarma said, “This is not just a symbolic gesture. It is our effort to ensure that Zubeen’s humanitarian spirit continues to inspire generations and strengthen Assam’s cultural roots.”
Roi Roi Binale, set to release on October 31, holds special emotional value for fans across the state. The film, which Zubeen Garg was closely involved with, represents a story of love, memories, and unfulfilled dreams—an artistic reflection of his deep bond with Assam.
Through this decision, the Assam government has turned collective grief into purposeful action, converting policy into a lasting tribute. The move not only commemorates one of Assam’s greatest sons but also reinforces the government’s commitment to preserving the state’s cultural and artistic heritage.
