Washington D.C.: US President Donald Trump on Monday issued a series of strong warnings against Iran, escalating tensions by suggesting that the United States could launch a devastating military strike within a very short timeframe.

Speaking to reporters and through posts on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump claimed that the US has the capability to “take out the entire country (Iran) in one night,” indicating that such action could occur as early as Tuesday evening. His remarks come amid rising geopolitical tensions linked to Iran’s position on regional security and maritime routes.

In a sharply worded message, Trump threatened to target critical Iranian infrastructure, including power plants and bridges, if Tehran does not agree to terms set by Washington or reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. He described a potential coordinated strike as “Power Plant Day” and “Bridge Day,” signalling a large-scale military operation.

The US President also set a specific deadline, stating that Iran must respond by “Tuesday, 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time,” further intensifying the urgency of the situation.

During his remarks, Trump reiterated that he has authorised US armed forces to take necessary action to protect American interests and personnel. Emphasising a long-standing US policy, he stated, “We leave no American behind,” while referencing a recent high-risk rescue operation involving a US airman.

Trump further indicated that military options under consideration could go beyond infrastructure strikes. “They’ll have no bridges, they’ll have no power plants… and there are things worse than that,” he warned, without elaborating on additional measures.

On diplomatic efforts, Trump acknowledged a proposed 45-day ceasefire put forward by international mediators but dismissed it as insufficient. “It’s a significant step, but not good enough,” he said, adding that the final decision on any ceasefire rests with him. Iran has reportedly rejected the proposal, calling instead for a permanent resolution to the conflict.

The President also made controversial remarks regarding Iran’s internal situation, claiming that the Iranian population would rise against its government if given the opportunity. He suggested that increased military pressure could lead to internal unrest, asserting that people in Iran “want to be free.”

Additionally, Trump repeated his interest in Iran’s oil resources but expressed uncertainty about public support in the United States for such a move. “If it were up to me, I would take the oil,” he said, while noting that Americans may prefer limited military engagement.

The developments mark a sharp escalation in rhetoric between Washington and Tehran, raising concerns globally about the possibility of a broader conflict in the region if diplomatic efforts fail.
