With the Assembly elections just days away, a massive show of strength unfolded across Assam as nearly 42,000 security personnel carried out a synchronised march on Monday, aiming to reassure voters ahead of the April 9 polls.
The large-scale exercise brought together the Assam Police and multiple central armed forces under a unified command structure. Participating forces included the Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Central Industrial Security Force, and Sashastra Seema Bal, along with armed police contingents from several other states.
Senior officers, including Inspector Generals, Deputy Inspectors General, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police, led the marches across districts, ensuring tight coordination and visibility at the grassroots level.
Spanning every police station jurisdiction, the operation was designed to reach both urban and remote areas simultaneously. Officials said the move was intended to send a clear message that robust security arrangements are in place, ensuring a safe and intimidation-free voting environment.
The march forms a key part of broader pre-poll security measures being implemented to facilitate free and fair elections, while also encouraging higher voter turnout across all constituencies.
