New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend the 57th convocation of IIT Delhi on Saturday, where more than 3,000 students will graduate, including 587 scholars receiving PhD degrees.

The annual convocation will see graduating students receive their degrees, with several high-performing students also being recognised with the institute’s top academic awards. The honours include the President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal and Perfect Ten Gold Medals.

A major highlight of Modi’s visit will be the inauguration of Param Pragya, an artificial intelligence-enabled high-performance computing facility at IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus.

The new facility is expected to significantly expand the institute’s computing infrastructure and support research involving artificial intelligence, data science, high-performance computing and other interdisciplinary fields.

The additional computational capacity will allow students and researchers to undertake more complex scientific and technological work, while supporting projects that require substantial computing resources.

Ahead of the convocation, Modi highlighted IIT Delhi’s contribution to research, innovation and technological development in a social media post. He also expressed his intention to interact with students and faculty members during his visit.

The inauguration of Param Pragya is expected to further strengthen IIT Delhi’s research ecosystem by providing advanced computational resources for work across multiple disciplines.

The Prime Minister’s participation in the convocation comes as the institute prepares to mark another milestone in its academic journey, with thousands of students completing their studies and moving into professional and research careers.
