BARPETA ROAD, ASSAM: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has undertaken a mechanised cleaning drive at Barpeta Road Railway Station as part of the ongoing Special Campaign 6.0, aiming to improve station cleanliness and provide passengers with a more pleasant travel environment.
The railway zone shared a post on X showing the cleaning initiative, stating that the drive was intended to enhance hygiene and cleanliness at the station. The activity forms part of Indian Railways’ broader efforts to maintain cleaner public spaces and strengthen sanitation practices across its network.
Special Campaign 6.0, officially known as the Special Campaign for Disposal of Pending Matters, is being implemented across government offices and railway units from October 2 to October 31, 2026. The Ministry of Railways has identified cleanliness, space management, scrap disposal and the clearance of pending matters among the campaign’s priorities.
Indian Railways has also set nationwide targets under the campaign, including cleanliness activities at 100,000 sites and the clearance of 700,000 square feet of space. These targets reflect the campaign’s emphasis on measurable improvements in public facilities and administrative efficiency.
Railway stations are important public facilities used daily by commuters and long-distance travellers. Regular cleaning of station entrances, stairways, platforms and other common areas can contribute to a more hygienic environment and improve the overall passenger experience.
The Barpeta Road initiative highlights the role of station-level maintenance in supporting wider railway cleanliness objectives. However, the NFR announcement did not specify the number of personnel involved, the equipment deployed or the volume of waste removed during the drive.
The Northeast Frontier Railway has encouraged cleanliness efforts under the campaign as Indian Railways continues its broader focus on sanitation, improved facilities and responsible management of public spaces.
