GMC Recognises Census Teams After First Phase of Houselisting Exercise in Guwahati

Guwahati, September 18, 2026: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation has honoured personnel involved in the recently concluded first phase of the Houselisting and Housing Census Operations, recognising their work in carrying out the census exercise across the city’s 13 administrative charges.

A felicitation programme was organised at the GMC Office in Betkuchi following the completion of the first phase. The event brought together census officials, field personnel and municipal authorities involved in the exercise.

Chinmoy Prakash Phookan, ACS, Commissioner of GMC and Principal Census Officer, attended the programme and acknowledged the efforts made by personnel at different levels during the census-related activities.

The best-performing Enumerators and Supervisors from all 13 Charges were felicitated for their performance and commitment. Charge Officers were also recognised for their role in supervising the work and coordinating activities within their respective jurisdictions.

Officials from the Directorate of Census were honoured during the programme for their support in conducting the operations. Their contribution was acknowledged as part of the overall effort behind the completion of the first phase.

Pranab Dutta Goswami, ACS, City Census Officer, was also felicitated for his contribution and coordination throughout the exercise.

The GMC said the programme was intended to acknowledge the collective efforts of the teams associated with the census work. The civic body highlighted the importance of coordination among enumerators, supervisors, charge-level officers and other officials in completing the first stage of the exercise.

The Houselisting and Housing Census constitutes the first phase of Census 2027, with the exercise involving the collection and updating of information relating to houses and household conditions before the population enumeration phase.

The felicitation programme concluded with recognition of the personnel whose field-level work contributed to the completion of the first phase of census operations under the Guwahati Municipal Corporation.
