Guwahati, September 18, 2026: A special cleanliness-focused programme was organised at the Assam Administrative Staff College in Guwahati on September 17 to mark the launch of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ initiative, with elected representatives, municipal authorities and government officials taking part.
The programme has also marked the beginning of a month-long observance titled ‘Seva Samarpan’, which will continue from September 17 to October 17, 2026. The initiative is being observed as part of efforts to strengthen public engagement in cleanliness and civic responsibility.
Among those present at the launch were Bijuli Kalita Medhi, Member of Parliament representing the Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency, Diplu Ranjan Sarmah, MLA of New Guwahati, and Dr. Tapan Das, MLA of Dimoria (SC).
The Guwahati Municipal Corporation was represented by Mayor Mrigen Sarania, Deputy Mayor Smita Roy, and Commissioner Chinmoy Prakash Phookan, ACS. Sabyasachi Kashyap, ACS, State Mission Director of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Assam, was also present.
The programme brought together civic representatives and officials associated with urban sanitation and cleanliness initiatives. The month-long observance is expected to provide a platform for activities aimed at encouraging communities to participate more actively in maintaining clean and hygienic surroundings.
The Swachhata Hi Seva campaign is being implemented as a public participation initiative, with cleanliness and civic service forming the central themes of the observance. The ‘Seva Samarpan’ period will run until October 17, during which related cleanliness activities are expected to continue across the city.
The launch at the Assam Administrative Staff College comes as Guwahati continues to undertake various sanitation and civic initiatives involving municipal bodies, local communities and other stakeholders.
