Ukhrul, September 18, 2026: Assam Rifles personnel came to the aid of local residents during two separate medical emergencies in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on September 16 and 17, providing immediate assistance and facilitating further medical treatment.
The first incident took place on September 16 at the Shakpao Company Operating Base (COB), where troops attended to a villager who had suffered a deep cut from a CGI sheet. An Assam Rifles Nursing Assistant provided emergency treatment, including controlling the bleeding and suturing the wound. Medication was also administered to the injured person.
A second emergency was reported the following day when a pregnant woman from Sorathen village went into labour while she was being taken to Ukhrul District Hospital.
According to the Assam Rifles, the woman delivered a baby girl near RP Gate at Shangshak Battalion. Following the delivery, troops facilitated the immediate transfer of the mother and newborn to the Unit Hospital at Shangshak for postpartum medical care.
After receiving initial treatment and care at the unit hospital, both were subsequently referred to a higher medical centre for further medical attention.
The two incidents occurred within a span of 24 hours and involved different types of emergencies, from an injury requiring immediate wound care to an unexpected childbirth during transportation.
The Assam Rifles said its personnel’s response demonstrated their readiness to provide humanitarian assistance to residents in the region during emergencies. The force regularly carries out community-oriented activities in the Northeast alongside its security responsibilities.
The details of both incidents were shared by the Assam Rifles through its official social media account on September 18, 2026. No names of the villagers or medical personnel involved were disclosed in the official statement.
