Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) conducted an eviction drive at Six Mile to remove unauthorised roadside encroachments as part of its ongoing efforts to improve road safety, facilitate smoother traffic movement and reclaim public spaces.

According to the civic body, the drive targeted illegal roadside structures and encroachments that obstructed the movement of vehicles and pedestrians. The initiative was undertaken to improve accessibility and help maintain public spaces across the city.

In posts shared on its official social media handles, GMC said the operation forms part of its continued efforts to keep Guwahati cleaner, more organised and accessible for residents and commuters. The corporation stated that such drives are aimed at preserving civic spaces while enhancing public convenience and road safety.

Officials said similar eviction drives will continue in different parts of the city to discourage unauthorised occupation of public land and support orderly urban development. The civic body also appealed to residents and business establishments to cooperate with the authorities by avoiding encroachments on public spaces.

The latest operation at Six Mile is part of GMC’s ongoing enforcement measures to keep roads and public areas free from illegal encroachments and improve overall civic infrastructure.
