A 31-year-old man was found dead on Thursday evening at Upper Merapani, near the Assam-Nagaland border. The body was recovered approximately 600 metres behind the F/142 Battalion LOC, under the jurisdiction of Merapani Police Station in Golaghat district, Assam.
The deceased was identified as Jugananda Thengal, son of Phatik Thengal and a resident of Purabagla village in Golaghat. According to sources, he was a known drug addict and had undergone a six-month rehabilitation program at Pathsala in 2023.
Authorities suspect a drug overdose as the probable cause of death. A section of F/142 Bn and personnel from Merapani Police Station were deployed at the site to ensure law and order.
