Tinsukia, March 22: Four Assam Police commandos were injured after unidentified attackers launched a late-night assault on a commando camp in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district in the early hours of Sunday.

The incident took place around 2 am at Jagun 10 Mile, where the assailants reportedly carried out a sudden and well-planned strike. According to preliminary information, the attackers first hurled multiple grenades—at least five—into the camp before opening fire, triggering a prolonged gun battle.

Security personnel responded swiftly, engaging the attackers in a fierce exchange of gunfire that continued for nearly 30 to 45 minutes. The prompt retaliation by the forces is believed to have prevented further damage.

The injured personnel have been identified as Chitranjan Mili and Debashis Bora from Jorhat, Ravi Garh from Chabua, and Jambuch Marak from Goalpara. All four are currently undergoing medical treatment.

People living in the surrounding areas described the incident as terrifying, with the sound of continuous explosions and gunshots disrupting the night. A local resident said the situation created panic and urged authorities to strengthen security measures to protect civilians.

While there has been no official confirmation regarding the group behind the attack, suspicion is being directed towards ULFA (Independent).

The incident has once again highlighted security concerns in parts of Upper Assam, with authorities likely to step up surveillance and launch operations in the aftermath.

Further details are awaited.
