Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday announced that the NDA government will continue focusing on the welfare of tea garden workers and gradually increase their daily wages to Rs 500 in the coming years.
Speaking about the government’s initiatives for tea communities, Sarma said tea workers have played a vital role in preserving Assam’s 200-year-old tea heritage. He stated that the NDA government has been working over the past decade for the overall development of “cha shramiks” and will further strengthen their livelihoods during its new term.
The Chief Minister also highlighted several educational initiatives for tea garden families. According to government data, 118 model high schools were established in tea garden areas between 2021 and 2026 to improve access to quality education. The state government now plans to set up 100 more model schools in tea garden regions between 2026 and 2031.
