In a major crackdown on theft-related activities in the city, Guwahati Police arrested a 35-year-old man from Lalmati and recovered three allegedly stolen scooties along with two stolen LPG cylinders during a targeted operation carried out by a team from Dispur Police Station.

According to information shared by Guwahati Police on social media platform X, the accused has been identified as Subrata Singh, a resident of Lalmati in Guwahati. The operation was conducted by an EGPD team from Dispur Police Station.

Police stated that the accused was found in possession of three stolen two-wheelers and two LPG cylinders suspected to have been stolen from different locations. All the stolen items were seized during the operation.

“An EGPD team from Dispur PS arrested one Subrata Singh (35) of Lalmati after he was found in possession of three stolen scooties and two stolen LPG cylinders, all of which were recovered during the operation. Legal action initiated,” Guwahati Police posted on X.

Sources said the recovery operation was carried out based on specific inputs and local surveillance. Investigators suspect that the accused may be linked to a wider theft network operating in and around the city, particularly involving vehicle theft and household burglary cases.

Police officials informed that the seized scooties are being verified to determine their original owners and whether they were linked to previously registered theft complaints in different police stations across Guwahati.

The recovery of LPG cylinders has also raised suspicion that the accused could have been involved in residential theft incidents. Officials are currently examining records of recent burglary and theft cases to establish possible connections.

A case has been registered, and legal proceedings have already been initiated against the accused. Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain whether more individuals were involved in the theft racket.

The operation forms part of the intensified anti-crime drives being conducted by Guwahati Police across the city to curb rising incidents of vehicle theft, burglary and organised property crimes.

Residents have meanwhile appreciated the swift action by the police and urged authorities to continue strengthening surveillance in vulnerable localities to prevent recurring theft incidents.
