Guwahati, July 7: The Assam Government has intensified its efforts to connect the state’s youth with overseas employment opportunities under the Chief Minister’s Foreign Language Initiative for Global Human Talent (CM-FLIGHT). As part of the initiative, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently reviewed the progress of international employment programmes during a visit to the North East Skill Centre in Garchuk.

The visit focused on assessing the implementation of international placement programmes being carried out under the Assam Skill Development Mission. The Chief Minister was accompanied by Toshiaki Nishikawa, Kaushik Rai, Additional Chief Secretary K. K. Dwivedi, and ASDM Mission Director Hanif Noorani.

The CM-FLIGHT scheme aims to prepare young people from Assam for careers abroad by providing foreign language training and placement support. Under the programme, the state government provides financial assistance of ₹1.5 lakh per trainee, including ₹1 lakh for Japanese language certification training and ₹50,000 for post-placement relocation assistance to help candidates settle after securing employment overseas.

According to an X post by Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, the initiative is intended to bridge the gap between Assam’s skilled workforce and the growing demand for trained professionals in international markets, particularly in Japan.

The state government expects the programme to create more overseas employment opportunities for Assamese youth while strengthening the state’s skilled workforce through specialised language training and international placement support.
