Major Arms and Explosives Cache Recovered in Joint Operations Across Churachandpur and Tengnoupal

Security forces have recovered a substantial cache of arms, ammunition, explosives and other warlike stores during two intelligence-based operations carried out in Manipur’s Churachandpur and Tengnoupal districts.

According to an official announcement by the Assam Rifles, the operations were conducted in coordination with intelligence agencies, the Territorial Army and local police. The recovered items have been handed over to the respective police stations for further legal action.

Arms Recovered During Churachandpur Operation

The first operation was carried out in the Sekhen area of Churachandpur district over August 17 and 18, 2026.

Assam Rifles personnel, along with the Territorial Army and local police, launched a joint search operation based on intelligence inputs. During the operation, the team recovered several firearms and ammunition.

The recovered items included:

  • One country-made .22 mm firearm
  • One factory-made 12-bore firearm
  • One MCG9 Mk 2, 9 mm weapon
  • Two country-made 9 mm pistols
  • Sixteen 12-bore rounds
  • Eight .22 calibre rounds
  • Nine fired cartridge cases

Security personnel also recovered jungle boots, clothing and body protection jacket harnesses from the area, according to the Assam Rifles.

Explosives and Firearms Seized Near Border Area in Tengnoupal

A second intelligence-based operation was conducted on August 20 in Tengnoupal district.

The operation was carried out jointly by Assam Rifles and Moreh Police in the Ch Tengnoupal area near BP 73, according to the official announcement.

A significantly larger cache of weapons and explosives was recovered during the search. The seized items included an M15 rifle with a magazine, an MA G3 rifle, a pistol, six single-barrel weapons, a .22 rifle and two country-made rifles.

The security forces also recovered five suspected drone bombs, five improvised explosive devices (IEDs), two grenades, a tear gas gun along with 17 rounds, 10 radio sets with chargers and two body protection jackets.

All the recovered arms, explosives and other materials were subsequently handed over to the concerned police stations for investigation and further action under the law.

The two operations underline the continuing efforts of security forces to trace and recover illegal weapons and explosive materials in sensitive areas of Manipur.
