Guwahati, October 30: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has placed renewed emphasis on improving sanitation, public amenities and urban infrastructure, with several development proposals discussed during its 67th Mayor-in-Council meeting held on October 27.
The meeting took place at the Conference Hall of Poura Seva Bhawan in Betkuchi, where the civic body reviewed the progress of ongoing projects and examined key administrative issues affecting municipal services across the city.
Improving waste management emerged as an important area of discussion, with the council considering the installation of CCTV cameras at garbage-vulnerable locations. The proposed surveillance measures are intended to strengthen monitoring and help address improper waste disposal in public areas.
The meeting also examined the renovation of public toilets and improvements to market infrastructure, with a focus on enhancing essential facilities for residents, traders and visitors.
Another significant issue discussed was the provision of library facilities across municipal wards. The proposal formed part of broader deliberations on improving community infrastructure and expanding access to public amenities.
The civic body further reviewed initiatives including Swachh Durga Puja and Purple City Campaign 2.0, alongside other development proposals aimed at improving Guwahati’s urban environment.
Apart from infrastructure-related matters, the meeting focused on identifying challenges affecting the implementation of ongoing projects. Greater coordination among concerned departments was highlighted as an important requirement for ensuring efficient execution and delivery of municipal services.
The discussions reflected GMC’s continued focus on strengthening civic administration, addressing sanitation-related concerns and improving public infrastructure as part of its broader efforts towards sustainable urban development.
While several proposals were taken up for discussion, the corporation did not specify implementation timelines or financial allocations for the individual initiatives in its announcement.
