Assam Rifles successfully seized a consignment of Heroin No-4 valued at approximately ₹18.57 lakh during a joint anti-narcotics operation in Mizoram’s Champhai district, officials said on Tuesday.
According to a statement shared by the Assam Rifles on X, the operation was carried out on May 11, 2026, in the General Area of Zote in Champhai district based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of contraband substances in the region.
The operation was jointly conducted by Assam Rifles personnel along with Champhai Police. During the search operation, the security forces apprehended one individual suspected of being involved in drug trafficking activities.
Officials stated that the team recovered 24.77 grams of Heroin No-4 from the possession of the apprehended individual. The estimated market value of the seized narcotics has been assessed at around ₹18.57 lakh.
Following the operation, the seized heroin along with the detained individual was handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department, Champhai for further investigation and necessary legal proceedings.
The successful operation highlights the continued efforts of Assam Rifles and state law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking and cross-border smuggling activities in the northeastern region. Champhai district, which shares an international border with Myanmar, has frequently emerged as a sensitive corridor for narcotics smuggling.
Security agencies have intensified surveillance and intelligence-based operations across Mizoram in recent months to curb the illegal movement of drugs and other contraband items through the international border.
Officials reiterated that coordinated efforts between security forces and local law enforcement agencies remain crucial in tackling the growing menace of narcotics trafficking in the Northeast.
