Guwahati, April 14, 2026 — The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has established a new cultural ground at Maligaon, dedicating it as the “Zubeen Garg Railway Bihutoli” in honour of celebrated Assamese singer Zubeen Garg. The initiative recognises the artist’s lasting influence on Assamese music and his deep cultural connection with people across the region.
The naming of the Bihutoli reflects widespread admiration for Zubeen Garg and serves as a formal acknowledgment of his contributions to Assam’s cultural identity.
Modern Infrastructure for Cultural Events
The newly developed venue has been designed to support large-scale cultural gatherings. It features a permanent stage, dining facilities, a dedicated toilet complex, community spaces, a boundary wall, and an all-weather ground, ensuring usability throughout the year.
The ground will host the upcoming Rongali Bihu celebrations organised by the Pandu Bihu Sanmilani from April 14 to April 17, 2026.
Inaugural Pre-Bihu Event
A pre-Bihu inauguration programme was recently held at the venue, drawing participation from railway officials, local residents, and cultural enthusiasts. The event was attended by NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, who joined the celebrations marking the opening of the ground.
Also present was Palmee Borthakur, sister of Zubeen Garg, who conveyed the family’s gratitude for the recognition given to the iconic singer.

With this initiative, NFR has reiterated its commitment to promoting the cultural traditions of the Northeast. By honouring influential figures like Zubeen Garg, the railway aims to strengthen its engagement with the region’s rich heritage while supporting community-driven cultural events.
