7 lakh claims NRC out of 40 lakh in Assam

Guwahati: Only two weeks’ time is left in the deadline to include its name in the National Register of Citizen (NRC).

Supreme Court extends a deadline to December 15, allows 5 additional documents. The top court also fixed a timeline for issuance of notice as for January 15 to claimants and verification of documents as February 1.

In the final draft of NRC 28 million people were listed. In which 40 lakh applicants were not named. The Supreme Court has fixed December 15 for this.

People have now left the last day to make their claims and to file objections. So far only 7 lakh claims have arisen, which can cause problems for those whose names have been withdrawn from the list.

Guwahati based worker, AB Khandekar, is the president of an organization working on citizenship issues. He criticized this paternal heritage process. Issuing the press release on November 23, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal admitted that the number of claims filed on NRC has so far been very unsatisfactory.
