Assam’s Athletics Player Hima Das honoured with the Arjuna Award

Assam: Assam’s Athletics Player Hima Das received the Arjuna Award from President Ram Nath Kovind during a function at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday 25 September 2018.

Award is India’s second highest sporting honour day.

Hima Das on her Twitter stated that it was a  proud moment for her to receive the prestigious award from the President of the country. She also thanked her parents and all her well-wishers.

Hima Das is the fifth Arjuna Award winner player from Assam.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also congratulated Hima Das for being honored with the Arjuna Award.

Hima Das holds the current Indian national record in 400 meters with a timing of 50.79 s that she clocked at the2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. She is the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in a track event at the IAAF World U20 Championships.
