Agartala, July 26, 2025 – In a major crackdown on cross-border smuggling, the Border Security Force (BSF) eliminated two Bangladeshi smugglers and injured another during a late-night operation along the India-Bangladesh international border in Tripura on Thursday. The BSF also recovered a consignment of medicines, including Viagra pills, valued at approximately ₹15 lakh.
According to official sources, the BSF intercepted a group of suspected smugglers attempting to infiltrate Indian territory with a large cache of pharmaceutical contraband. When challenged, the intruders tried to flee, prompting the BSF personnel to open fire as per protocol.
The two deceased smugglers have been identified as Zakir Hussain Millat and Mohammed Yasin Liton, both Bangladeshi nationals. A third individual, Mohammed Afsar, sustained injuries during the incident and reportedly managed to retreat into Bangladesh.
One of the bodies, belonging to Mohammed Yasin Liton, was recovered on the Indian side and was handed over to Bangladeshi authorities after post-mortem formalities. Reports from across the border confirm that Zakir Hussain Millat succumbed to his injuries in a Bangladeshi hospital.
The seized consignment includes a large quantity of Viagra and other pharmaceutical products, which are believed to have been intended for illegal distribution within India. Officials estimate the total market value of the recovered goods to be around ₹15 lakh.
A senior BSF officer stated, “This successful operation is part of our intensified efforts to curb cross-border smuggling and ensure national security. The personnel followed strict rules of engagement, and the action was taken in self-defense when the suspects attempted to escape.”
The BSF has increased surveillance and patrolling along the border, especially in vulnerable stretches of Tripura, which has witnessed repeated attempts of smuggling involving narcotics, medicines, and other illegal goods.
An inquiry into the incident is underway, and cross-border coordination is ongoing with Bangladeshi counterparts to dismantle the smuggling network involved.
This operation marks yet another successful effort by Indian border forces to crack down on transnational smuggling and maintain strict vigil along the sensitive Indo-Bangladesh border in the Northeast.
