Troops of the Assam Rifles rescued two seriously injured civilians following a vehicle accident near Gamnoum Village in Manipur’s Kamjong district, officials said on Saturday.
According to a statement shared by the Assam Rifles on social media platform X, the accident took place on May 16 near Gamnoum Village under the Shangshak area of Kamjong district. Personnel from the paramilitary force responded swiftly after receiving information about the incident.
“ASSAM RIFLES RESCUES INJURED CIVILIANS AFTER VEHICLE ACCIDENT IN KAMJONG. Assam Rifles troops at Shangshak swiftly rescued two seriously injured civilians following a vehicle accident near Gamnoum Village in Kamjong district on 16 May 2026,” the force posted on X.
Officials stated that the troops immediately rushed to the accident site along with medical personnel and initiated rescue operations. The injured civilians were provided emergency medical assistance at the spot before being evacuated for further treatment.
Sources said the quick response by the security personnel helped ensure timely medical attention to the victims, who had reportedly sustained serious injuries in the mishap.
The exact cause of the accident was not immediately known. However, locals in the region pointed out that hilly terrain, narrow roads and poor weather conditions often make travel difficult in several interior parts of Kamjong district.
The Assam Rifles further stated that the operation reflected its continued commitment towards the welfare and safety of civilians living in remote and border areas of the Northeast.
Apart from counter-insurgency and border security duties, the Assam Rifles has frequently been involved in humanitarian assistance, medical outreach programmes, rescue operations and emergency support activities across Northeastern states.
Residents of the area reportedly appreciated the prompt response of the troops and medical officials, saying such interventions play a crucial role in remote districts where immediate emergency services are often limited.
Kamjong district, located in eastern Manipur along the India-Myanmar border, has several remote villages connected through difficult mountainous roads. During emergencies, security forces and local authorities often coordinate rescue and evacuation efforts to assist stranded or injured civilians.
The latest rescue operation has once again highlighted the role of the Assam Rifles not only as a security force but also as a key support system for communities living in far-flung areas of the Northeast.
